Throwback Thursday! For todays post I thought I'd go back to my first ever outfit post and recreate it for the 2013 LLYMLRS (whoa I cant believe its 2013, I've not typed that before!!). I'm actually wearing the exact same dress, I've thought about getting rid of it over the years but I just couldn't bring myself to bin it. While I do have aran cardigans still, I decided on this more "me" now choice of the white eyelash cardigan from River Island. I also added the bowler instead of the turban, which I do actually wear quite a bit still as I felt it was more something I'd choose now. It's so weird to see where my blog has gone from that initial outfit post. It was the outfit that sparked it all, It got loads of hypes on Lookbook, ended up featured on Chictopia all within 24 hours. I just remember my Blackberry (lol) was literally going off the hook with notifications. It was the biggest buzz ever!
People say my style has changed loads, and I guess it has. I do wear trousers a lot more and don't wear much colour, although it's worth noting most of my outfits in 2010-2011 were fairly black/white/grey! I think style changes constantly, mine does. I never follow trends but I always dress how I want and what I think is nice. Right now I'm very much into texture and luxe fabrics over fast fashion and buying loads and loads of clothes I'll wear once or twice. I can see why my blog can be a little boring, over done and expected. I do literally wear black and white every single day, but I try and keep it varied and not to repeat stuff to often. But then you have those special unexpected moments where I do something crazy like wear a bright blue baroque print suit, and suddenly it's not so monotone after all.

Who cares, your style is you! I wear black 99.9% of the time and ocasionally throw in khaki, grey or white. It's all the rage now anyway!

Love the cardigan, it looks so much more fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat Outfit. I saw this cardigan in River Island the other day and said to my boyfriend .. "Lily Melrose" has this.. He wasn't interested. But I love it and wish I'd of bought it!

The monochrome looks lovely! Your style is just so perfect :)

Don't ever think your blog is boring, lily! I love your style, and I know I wear tons of black and white so I can definitely relate to it. I love your blog because you're someone who uses the same pieces in different ways so it's relatable to someone like me, versus style blogs who literally wear different clothing every day. I mean, that's cool too, but it's hard to keep up with or match. I think the way you manage to vary things with the same pieces/colors but still keep it interesting shows a lot of creativity on your part! Love this recreation of your first outfit :)
ReplyDeleteThat cardigan looks perfect! Soo snuggly xx
ReplyDeleteI love this. You're right, it's so Lily.

I really like the way you've put this look together! You do monochrome so well. I have always loved your looks anyway, from way back when you only posted images from waist up, etc. I agree, your style has changed but I believe it's a more sophisticated grown-up version of what it used to be. I remember your first outfit post floating around Tumblr for so long, then a lot more followed. =) But I never really knew who you were until I discovered your blog late last year. Aha! You're such an inspiration. x

Hey Lily! I stick to neutrals too, you just can't go wrong. But I agree, sometimes you just need a bit of colour in your life - I just bought this great jacket from River Island http://highheelsandcobbles.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/zest-is-secret-of-all-beauty-there-is.html. And you look fab in the cobalt blue trouser suit :) x
ReplyDeleteThis outfit looks great. Love the hat :) I too am a very neutral person when it comes to clothes. Imo you can't go wrong with black, white & grey and accessories can also add a splash of colour along the way. Katie B @ Minerva Collection – UK Handbags & Jewellery
ReplyDeleteI love your style and so do thousands of other people. Lovely post! I'm loving that river island cardigan, it looks so fluffy and cosy. X

ReplyDeletewww.tinyalis.blogspot.com
I love this! Your tights are gooorgesou xo
ReplyDeleteoh lily, you look amazing! this outfit looks so great for a night out as it's not too dressy but is in no means casual! and it's so crazy to see this outfit compared to your first and to see how much your style has changed but stayed pretty similar at the same time... X
ReplyDeletehttp://theenglishgirl.blogspot.co.uk/
I love your style, just cos you're not wearing crazy in your face outfits in no way means you're any less stylish than anyone else. I love how you've stayed true to your personal style as your blog has grown, and not felt the need to dress up for blog photos and wear things you don't really wear IRL. And yet you still experiment with pattern and colour and stuff so your blog is not boring at all! Lol excuse the fangirling!
ReplyDeleteAhh, such a cool idea to recreate your first post! I've been reading your blog for such a long time! I feel the same way when it comes to buying clothes; only buying things I'm comfortable in and pieces I know I'll love forever :) We are growing up haha.
