Faux fur has evolved this year and there is fur trims on jackets as well as an influx of furry gilets to fur lined clogs and booties as well as some lovely trapper and Russian inspired hats. Personally I love faux fur, Pulling out my faux fur jacket is my favourite part of winter. There's something so glamorous and chic about being bundled up in a big furry ball! A fur gilet can add a really retro and bohemian feel to a simple long sleeved dress or top! I saw a girl rocking one at the Look Show, and as much as I'm against replicating someones styling, I pretty much NEED the shirt and gilet!
This A/W I'm on the hunt for the perfect faux fur jacket! I'd ideally like one that comes mid thigh, not too big in a nice rich chocolatey brown colour. A girl can dream right? I shall be trawling round all the charity and vintage shops over the next coming months! Last year there was this beautiful coat in the Topshop A/W lookbook, and I checked everyday to see if it was on sale, But no luck. I ended up buying two from a charity shop instead, but they weren't quite right! I always find lovely vintage coats, but they turn out like 3 sizes too big for me. I also really want a nice Mongolian fur gilet, probably a black one that comes to the waist, We have one in New Look at the moment which is cute, But its not quite what I'm looking for! Fur will be trickling into stores from now on I predict, Fingers crossed for that Topshop jacket!
Id never wear real fur, I know I wear leather but personally I think fur is a bit different, I was once offered this real fur jacket, and it was beautiful, in pristine condition and they said I could have it for £20, I just couldn't do it, It kinda creeps me out really! Theres something about fur that I just simply cannot agree with. I think alot of people nowadays wouldn't wear fur, The whole real fur/faux fur is a MASSIVE debate in fashion, But I wouldn't hate someone or think less of them if someone else wore it. I know the Olsens are big real fur fans! Like I said I'd never wear it myself!
What are your thoughts? Are you going to be wearing some faux fur this autumn winter, or even real fur if your that way inclined? Let me know your feelings!

Love the second look! I was given a fur coat by my mum but I can't wear it! It's weird when I stroke it :/ feels too much like an animal in front of me! Having said that, I don't think I'd wear faux fur if it wasn't soft enough either. Hard to please!

love the fourth!i'd never wear real fur too, but i do have a few leather accessories, majority are fake though:)
ReplyDeleteit puts me off when tv shows what happens to animals..i hate it so much!:(
xx
I watched a documentary on killing animals for their fur once. It was sick. There is such good quality faux fur around now that animals shouldn't die for fashion (they shouldn't anyway, even before faux fur).
ReplyDeleteI'm hosting a giveaway on my blog for a £25 gift voucher on homeware. If you or any of your readers are interested please click here. :)
Love this post!, I love faux fur, saw one in new look but I love the parka's also :) xx
ReplyDeleteI couldn't do real fur myself, although those who buy vintage I am fully behind as the money doesn't go to the people behind the killing, having said that I wear leather snd am sure that's probably quite brutal too? Such a hard and in-depth topic!
ReplyDeleteThat said I love all these looks and am keeping my eagle eye out for a faux fur coat too
R x
I love this faux fur trend - but I'm not sure I could pull off an entire fur jacket - but a fur collar would do :) Real fur creeps me out as well - would never wear it even if it was given to me!
ReplyDeleteI'd wear faux fur if I found anything nice. I guess I am just too picky though. I'd never wear real fur. It seems weird and unnecessary. I wear real leather boots and belts but not jackets...
ReplyDeleteMega thumbs up for the clear 'no fur' statement, I completely agree. There's no need to sacfifice an animal when faux fur looks just the same- and it's even better without the guilt. I wrote an entire page on my blog dedicated to real fur/ faux fur and animal tested products etc...I'm all for faux! :]

Ahh I wouldn't be able to wear a real fur jacket or anything either.. I have a chinchilla n the thought of wearing it's fur D: no way!
ReplyDeleteI really wanna find a short haired chocolate brown faux fur jacket too.. about to the hips i think. No luck yet though!
That's funny, I just posted a poll on my blog about faux fur...Love how these ladies wear it!!

I have a beautiful chocolate brown vintage fur coat that I bought 3 years ago and wear every winter. I have no issues with wearing fur as long as it's vintage. In this day and age, with all the quality faux fur jackets/accessories around, there is no need to kill animals for fur.
ReplyDeleteBut if a beautiful, timeless vintage fur coat exists, it almost seems wrong to discard it - it embodies a time and is a real piece of fashion herritage.
I love all those looks =) I'm so for faux fur! Real fur is so 1980s! =) animals shouldn't have to die in order to make a coat etc. Leather is a biproduct which is a bit more acceptable =) such a deep subject =) love your blog xx
ReplyDeleteAh, fur! I don't mind leather, because people eat cows and waste not want not (and perhaps the exception of rabbits but that's not really a high demand consumable meat)! But when it comes to mink, leopard etc, they're being killed for their fur no doubt about it and that's why I personally wouldn't wear it.
ReplyDeleteI do love the faux fur gilets though! Reminds me a bit of the 70's! x
I love my faux fur leopard print jacket from topshop..
ReplyDeletebe sure to check out the outfit of the days I just posted if your interested on how i rocked it :D

I was having this discussion with my boyfriend a few days ago, I to wouldnt wear real fur it creeps me out. I would also love to say that I wouldnt wear real leather but the truth is I would!
ReplyDeleteI recently got a new fur gilet from Primark and I really love! I looked everywhere for a long one and that is the only place I found it! I have a post about it here -- http://a-littleobsessed.blogspot.com/2010/10/ootd-fur-gilet.html if you would like to read it.
Bershka and zara also quite nice longish fur gilet but none of them beat the £18 Primark one, I love it!

I couldn't wear fur....i'm not too keen on faux fur either. Saying that recent pictures ive seen of outfit posts where have been rocking the faux fur trend have been inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI wear both real and faux fur. I don't want to get into the ethics of it, but it just doesn't creep me out! To me, it's the exact same thing as wearing leather.
ReplyDeleteI inherited a beautiful white mink coat from the 1940's, but I obviously don't have many occasions to wear it! But I do love the trend, so I bought a black faux fur gillet (it hits at the waist, too! Check out my blog for pictures, you might be interested) and a black winter coat with a faux fur-trimmed hood.
xoxo Hannah
I wore my vintage leopard print faux fur coat for the first time yesterday. Definitely means it's Autumn now.
ReplyDeleteI think wearing fur's OK, as long as it's vintage. I mean, if it's already been made, then you may as well wear it, otherwise there was no point in the first place. I don't think it's necessary to kill animals for fur now though x
The fourth look is lovely! I'd never wear real fur, but even saying that, I don't think fur in general looks right on me! xxx
ReplyDeleteI agree I would only wear faux, I'm thinking cruella de vil style ;)
ReplyDeleteIm really against the whole 'fur' thing, If you have a read about what people actually do to the animals its so cruel, and for me, i think, enough to put anyone off!! I dont understand why people wear the real stuff especially with the things that go on behind making it. As nice as it may look i'd go for the 'faux fur' a hundred times over real fur as i think its so wrong!
ReplyDeleteI'm vegetarian so i would never wear fur and i don't wear leather either.
ReplyDeleteI love faux fur, i have some new look boots i bought recently which have a fur trim which are my favourite shoes at the moment. I love the look of jackets and gilets but i'm not sure i could pull them off, might have to actually try one on to see if it suits me.
Really love the 1st, second and fifth pics!! Great!! xoxo!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I'm intrigued by the faux fur gilets I've seen out and about, but I'm not really sure if they're me? I have a gooorgeous faux fur leopard print coat which I adore, but I would never ever wear real fur! I don't wear leather and am veggie so fur is a no go! Faux all the way :) xx
ReplyDeletedon't know if this has been mentioned in the comments elsewhere here but i thought id let you know i work as a sales assistant in river island and theres a fur coat currently on sale thats really similar to that topshop one you had your eye on, ive been wanting to get the one in RI for a while now:) xx
ReplyDeleteThere is something about each look that I just love!
ReplyDeleteI wore my faux fur vest yesterday and posted my OOTD pic on my blog!
It's one of my most favorite fall purchases!

I love the last one...and I am thinking about to wear for first time in my life skin coat!!
ReplyDeletein all my fifteen years I've relly never given a fuck about fur. until now, with those biba adverts of daisy in that amazing coat (which also seems ridiculously functional for something so nice!) and those epic little river island hats... imma make a post about this!

the 3rd look is my favourite. I cant wait to get my hands on a faux fur coat! I wouldnt ever wear real fur!
ReplyDeleteI would never wear real fur.
ReplyDeleteI have an amazing faux fur coat though. Well saying that it could do with being a little bit longer but it'll do other than that! Can't wait till it's colder so I can wear it xx
great post :) i couldnt bring myself to wear real fur, im a sucker for animals and their cuteness- it makes me too sad. plus theres such a massive variety of faux fur items which are still good quality and soft and feel just as furry!! faux all the way. and lots of it <3 xx

I've got a faux fur jacket and a faux leopard fur print bag that I can't wait to break out for the winter! I think fur walks a fine line between edgy/glamorous and tacky and these styled fur really well! As for real fur, I'd totally wear it if I could afford it.
ReplyDeleteI love faux fur... I've just rediscovered when moving out my faux leopard print jacket that I had when I was 10... in the midst of Spice Fever! It still fits perfectly, strangely, I wore it the other day, uber 90s vintage :P
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with leather; I eat meat, and leather is a byproduct of meat; cows aren't killed for their skin, it's a secondary use.
I'm against fur; HOWEVER, I have a real mink stole/collar that was handed down to me from my great aunt. For years I wouldn't wear it, but now I realise; back then it was the norm, and I can't do anything about that particular animal dying, I wasn't the person who bought it in the first place so that animal didn't die for me, per se. Just for my great aunt :P
I'd never buy anything 'new' fur. Demand creates demand and ultimately you're responsible for the death of an animal for aesthetic gains.
(note; this is different in siberia/arctic where they literally need to wear animal fur and skin to keep out the cold) In britain we rarely go below -2 :P
xx
I'd never wear real fur, however 'nice' it looked, I don't think I could ever bring myself to wear it.
ReplyDeleteI do however, love faux-fur, especially in gilet/body warmers form.

The weird thing about that Topshop fur coat is I used to see a girl last winter wearing one just like it. I'm guessing it must have been vintage though as I'm sure Topshop never released that fur.
ReplyDeletei need fuax fur in my life
ReplyDeleteI had to wear real fur coat once for a competition ... it was gross so faux fur ANYDAY!

I really like the snuggly feel of a big (faux) fur coat on a wintery day..I also found a faux fur headband in telford primark recently for £1, so had to purchase - I'm wearing it today for the first time as it's freezing, but I'm not sure if i'm completely sold on it..
ReplyDeleteAs for real fur, I have a couple of vintage coats, and a short jacket which my nan gave me, all of which i'm fairly sure are real..But as they're vintage I haven't really got a problem with wearing them. And I think that some of the faux items are so "real-looking" these days, that if I wear a real coat, ppl just assume it's a faux fur one anyway..I don't have a problem with it myself, but it's not like I go around advertising the fact i'm wearing fur, as I know some ppl I know would probably hate the idea..
I love Fake Fur Jackets,too <3
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Germany.
