| ILLAMASQUA MATTE LIP LIQUID in exotic |
Y'all know I love a matte lip. In fact, Illamasqua Androgen Pigment is still my favourite lip product of all time. It's held the peachy pink matte crown for a very VERY long time now. So when I heard that Illamasqua were adding a Matte Lip Liquid line to their innovative and unqiue range - I was very very excited. I was really intrigued to see how Illamasqua would tackle the trend. They are a gloss/lipstick hybrid, apply like a gloss and dry like a liquid. Available in three seasonal shades, Surrender (warm peach), Exotic (vivid orange) and Forbidden (sensual pink) which I think they plan to expand on in the future.
I initially loved them. The colour’s are bright, peppy and the colour finish is really pretty. I always got compliments on Surrender and how lovely it looked on. It was basically like a more liquid version of my beloved Androgen. However, the more I wore them the realisation hit me was that they are good, but not excellent. While they look nice for the first hour of wear I find they ball up a little on the lips and look very weird. Especially around the opening of the mouth (that sounds horrid, I apologise) the colour wears off quickly and looks very odd. I used the expression “bitty” to describe them if you know what I mean.
I do like them, but I don’t think they are exceptional. Like all matte liquid lipsticks, they suck all the moisture out the lips and leave you with a bit of a chalky looking pout. I love the idea, colour pay off, shade range and the packaging… It’s just not quite there in terms of finish. Nice but not the best.
