london eats : Chin Chin Labs

Places to eat in Camden review Chin Chin Laboratorists review
Chin Chin Labs review Camden Ice Cream review Chin Chin Laboratorists review Chin Chin Laboratorists review

49-50 Camden Lock Place NW1 8AF

Molecular gastronomy has never really appealed to me until one day we stumbled upon Chin Chin Labs. A fixture in Camden market where ice cream is frozen to order using liquid nitrogen. The menu is short but sweet: chocolate, vanilla and two specials – one ice-cream, one dairy-free. Then you have a selection of gourmet toppings to experiment with. I went for a Caramel Pretzel and Grilled White Chocolate - no idea how they grilled white chocolate but I rolled with it.

Expect a queue, it's pretty darn popular, but being a Londoner I now know that queuing always means its worth it. Honestly one of the best ice creams I've ever tasted although I was panicking that I'd die of nitrogen poisoning! The ice cream was creamy, super vanilla-y and really was a HUGE treat. Expensive at almost £5 a tub but like I said, so worth it! I can report back that am indeed not dead. 100% reccomend this place if youre ever in Camden!

  1. Looks and sounds so yummy! Unfortunately we haven't here any molecular gastronomy here on the Bavarian countryside ...

  2. Nitrogen ice cream is such a cool concept. I've only tried it once at another place, but I definitely want to try the one at Camden. x

  3. The air is 78% nitrogen so I think if you were going to die of nitrogen poisoning it would have happened by now.

    1. I obviously know this, but that wasn't the point i was making, the incorrect consumption of liquid nitrogen can cause asphyxiation. Theres been a lot of debate if it's actually safe to consume. Especially after a girl had to have an emergency gastrectomy after drinking a Jagermeister cocktail,

    2. A quick google tells me that a gastrectomy is some nasty shit. I stand corrected (and somewhat freaked out).

  10. Was recently in London for a little trip with my sister. We stayed in Shoreditch but I'm dying to go back and explore some more little eats like this. Looks so good! I am now a Breakfast Club convert too. We went to the Hoxton branch. No words for their pancakes......
