Kinda Militant

When was the last time I shot an outfit post? Yeah bad that.

So it’s been forever ever and I thought on a recent Pokemon related walk I should hand my camera over to someone and let them actually shoot me… So that is what I did mid-hunt because I’d found a rogue Evee in the park near my house. I've seen Pewds shoot videos there so I convinced myself they must put all the good 'mon there.

It’s been hot recently - like real hot. Im sure if you're British you're well aware of the situ and well versed on the “HOW IS IT SO HOT” conversations we’ve all had this week. I forget sometimes that while it’s super hot it doesn’t mean that it’s not windy - I do live by the sea after all. For all it’s wonderful beachy pebbly drinks-in-the-sun goodness, it is v. v. windy. After chasing my chasing my hat down about 2 miles worth of seafront I decided I was better off inside. A few Evee's richer, one Ponyta and a couple of hundred Pidgeys. And of course binning off all the Drowzee's I could find. Not bad really.

So I wore a white dress which I bought to wear on my LA trip but I think I wore for approx 5 minutes before I realised it was in fact way too cold. Paired with a camo jacket which I thought looked v. military when it was placed with the shoes and the dress. But I kinda like that. I basically live in outfits like this right now, feminine dresses mixed with a trusty pair of booties, oversized sunnies (I wasnt actually wearing any makeup because cba) and menswear inspired shirts to give it a girly/tough edge.

God I talk about the weather so much in this post. I hate being so bloody British sometimes.

Dry Shampoo for your Gym Bag

Colab Active Dry Shampoo*

Colab is a brand thats been lurking around for a good ol' while now and Im not actually sure if I've spoken about it on here or not. Created by the absolutely wonderful Ruth Crilly - it's a range of dry shampoo's that you can pick up at your local drugstore that's good enough to rival the iconic Batiste.

Touted as a gym bag must have, the Colab Active is a must for those of us on the go, outdoorsy types and sporty babes. Who am I kidding, I am none of the above.

This Active version shampoo is the same formula as the original Sheer and Invisible but with Moringa Seed Extract to condition and offers UV protection for your barnet. I find the power of the Colab Dry Shampoo's to be super fine and almost invisible in the hair, you know that sort of white cast that Batiste gives? Yeah it doesn't do that. Thumbs up.

I friggen' love the scent, it's a little bit lemon-y, bergamot and neroli-ish paired with amber and a complimentary musky undertone. Which sounds super fancy for a dry shampoo, but it's a very chic and fresh fragrance. Ideal product for pepping up greasy locks and with it's super duper oil absorbing properties it's like dry shampoo on steroids!

A little tip that I read over on Ruth's blog is to spray it in before you workout and then brush it out after you've finished working out and then reapplying it again just to make sure it feels super clean. Thats a tip I think I might start trying on days that I dont wash my hair, spraying in dry shampoo the night before and then brushing it out in morning! I actually used this technique when I went on Holiday last week because I knew I was going to be getting my sweat on - it was 40C at some points!
In the morning before I stepped out into the sun I'd liberally spritz my hair with the product and let it go to work. I found my hair overall less sweaty and less hard to manage. Of course I still washed my hair on those days as it was REALLY hot. But I was impressed how less slick and sweaty my hair felt throughout the day.

2 Shower Gels to get you going in the Morning

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Hands up who hates mornings? *insert hand up emoji*

Nothing really gets me going in the morning (well apart from a strong coffee or seven) is a zesty energising shower gel. I need something that strips away all the sleepiness from my body and sets me up for the day. Now Im not promising miracles here, I can only speak from my own experience - but I can promise a little bit of spring in your step post shower.

This is one of my ol' favourites, especially on mornings when you really CBA. Grapefruit really gets the senses going and brightens up even the dullest of mornings and this has even been known to ease a hangover or two. Zingy and Invigorating with a underlying zesty fragrance that really wakes me up ready for the day.

Super Sweet Lime flavoured and packed full of something they like to call Coolcapsule Smooth (srsly wtf are these beauty buzzwords) Sugar Crush this shower gel provides a mood boosting dose of sweetness and sugar to really get things pumping. Sugar Crush has always been a polarising scent for me due to it's almost overwhelming sweetness but there is no doubting that it packs a punch. I also like that it lingers a bit on the skin so I can get a whiff during the day but you could be extra fancy and finish off with some of their body butter for a extra boost.

Prime & Protect in One Step

Dr Murad's Invisblur Perfecting Shield £55-£65.50ml*

Looking through my stockpile of beauty stuff for potential summer wins and fails to talk about on the blog and I came across bottle of primer come SPF by Dr Murad and thought I'd slap it on and give it a whirl.

As any self respecting beauty junkie should know. SPF is Queen. Number 1 beauty rule is to always wear SPF, even if its not sunny you should wear it everyday. It protects your skin from the elements and also helps reduce signs aging. But how many of us actually do that? Not me, even though I kid myself that I do it but often I don't or frankly... cant be bothered.

Dr Murad's Invisblur Perfecting Shield is like a gift from the skincare Gods. It's come down to grace my sensitive skin with a smoother looking face, plus and the added benefit of having a nice SPF 30 rating. It's not greasy, pore clogging or heavy on the face, just smoothing and sort of hydrating at the same time. Basically it's a primer, and SPF in one - who wouldn't want that! It's velvety smooth goodness!

Im picky about facial SPF's and have been using Benefit Dream Screen for as long as I can remember but this is the new 'ting has really changed the game. Worn alone for that sort of faux blurred out skin look or worn under your favourite foundation it keeps the skin looking fresh, protected and hydrated all day long.

Downside? Of course there got to be a downside. It retails for £55.00 - £69.50, 30ml and 50ml respectively which is pretty pricey even for a skincare product. However it is a two in one and has anti-aging properties and you can put a price on being youthful. But in all seriousness this is a pretty awesome product and definitely worth trying if you're in the market for a new facial SPF and want the added bonus of it being a primer too!

H&M Espadrilles

I'm having a real thing with Espadrilles at the moment. Im not sure where it's come from but it's the shoe that I keep being drawn to the most this summer and I've found myself buying a pair or three. It started with the ones I talked about in this post, then slowly but surely a few more have ended up in my collection. Below are a selection of some of my favourite on the market right now. Let me know which your favourites are!

Zara Patch Bag

Friday, July 01, 2016

Zara, girl we don't tend to get along all that well. I find your stuff over priced and sometimes too poor quality to justify the price tag but every now and again you show me how much of a babe you are and come up with something so undeniably perfect I could jump for joy.

This lil' Zara beaut of a crossbody bag has been gracing my shoulder for the better part of the last three months after I destroyed my eerily similar bag from Marks and Spark's while in New York due to my obsession with over stuffing things. I genuinely thought for a moment I was never going to find a bag like it again and then this one came along.

A little on the small side, but perfectly formed for days when I don't feel the need to tote around half my belonging with me. The little patches add a cute and quirky edge to a plain black bag and really make a statement without making too much of a statement y'know. My absolutely go-to for outfits that consist of the shame shade of black it really pops and adds a fun edge which I like to tell myself is one of my style signatures.

I've been harping on about doing a DIY version of this bag for the absolute longest time and I FINALLY have all the bits and bobs and the patches I want to make my own version of this patchwork bag! But for now this one hits the spot. Good Job Zara!
