birthday wishlist (oh hai mum!)

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Its now just under 3 weeks till I reach the grand old age of 20. My 20th birthday is on April 2oth and I genuinely feel so old. I mean in the grand scheme of it I'm really not that old, But when I look at someone younger than me I'm always so shocked to see how "grown up" most of the girls are nowadays. I mean when I was 14 I used to wear baggy red corduroy trousers and too small t-shirts. All the girls nowadays want to be older than they are, and start fake tanning and doing makeup from the age of about 12. Its so weird, because it makes me feel like times have changed SO much so quickly. *sigh*

Today I got asked what I actually wanted for my birthday and I honestly didn't have a clue. To be honest, I don't want or need anything in particular. I always buy whatever I want when I want. I pay for everything I own myself so when it comes to birthday presents I'm always at a loss. Any way, Here are a few things that I like that I don't currently own!

what i wore 30.3.10
top: H&M
skirt: H&M
hype on lookbook/chictopia

I’m not really a top and skirt kinda girl, Always dresses. But this blouse really caught my eye in H&M, and it somehow wormed its way into my wardrobe after obsessing over it a few days. I feel so girly and sweet in this, which is the total opposite of how I normally dress. Excuse the thread hanging down, I did notice it and thought “oh ill photoshop it out!” but totally forgot and now I cannot be bothered to reupload!

My friend Olivia is over tonight, and we are going to drink lots of wine and eat some nachos. NOMNOM. She goes to uni in wrexham, so were having a good ol' catch up. Its great being able to see my old friends at the moment. Tomorrow I'm working and getting my nails done again. It should be lovely. Its nice to have some time off for easter and actually not have to work super hard 24/7!

sunday portrait week 20

This is LLYMLRS (week 20)

001. Apologies for lack of updates, Every time I wanted to post something this week, Ive gone a blank and had to delete what I was writing. My friend died on Thursday, So my head and my heart have been all over the place. Death is hard to come to terms with, at the moment it feels so surreal, and like hes not really gone. As selfish as it sounds i feel so left out of the mourning process, especially with other friends, Not one of our mutual close friends have spoke to me since its happened, Its weird. Seeing Jodie today was nice because I could actually talk to her about the whole thing on the same level.

002. Since I decided the other day to leave my hair and grow it out a bit more, I've become obsessed with vintage hair styles. Ive always wanted to have victory rolls or finger waves, and this week I've been experimenting with different ways of doing them. Ive found some awesome tutorials via Youtube. And I'll post some pictures of my experimentation soon! If anyone has any recommendations of hair tutorials (not necessarily pin-up/vintage style ones, I'm open to all!) let me know! Post 'em in the comments or something!

003. Tried out Revlon Photoready foundation this week, Not that I'm a beauty blogger, But I thought Id mention it! I bought 003 Shell, Which is a very good match for me. For reference Im NW15 in MAC Studio Fix Fluid, 20 Clair in Chanel Mat Lumiere, 180 Sand Beige in Revlon Colourstay, and Mont Blanc in Nars Sheer Glow. I thought it was OK. The sparkles are weirdly noticeable when your outside, and I totally get the Edward Cullen shimmer! The coverage is very sheer in my opinion, defiantly worth a try. It wont be replacing my BUT. If your in the UK and want to try it, Its currently on offer in boots for £9.99, and if you spend over £5 in boots you can get £2 off. So it comes in as £7.99 for the bottle, which is more or less half its RRP.

004. Went out on Friday night with my university friends for Lee's birthday and it was a proper laugh. I was drinking this weird cocktail in Weatherspoons called "Monster Mash" which was Jim beam, Cherry Sourz and a can of Monster Juiced. It was quite nice actually, Led to copious ammounts of terrible dancing and lots of laughs!

005. Even though it says in my sidebar I don't blog about wrestling, I don't care, Its Wrestlemania tonight, and like I've done for the past couple of years I'm staying up with my brother and some friends to watch it. Everyone thinks I'm weird for liking wrestling (OMGZ ITZ SO FAKEE!!1111!), But I totally love it! I dont even know why?

006. Does anyone have any suggestions of what they'd like to see on this blog more. I dunno, Like tags, features, ideas? Its kinda a mish mash at the moment of my life and outfits. Which isn't what I wanted, As much as I enjoy doing my own personal artwork, I'm bogged down with tons of live briefs at university as well as running projects. I need some quick, but fun things to work on during the week to keep my creativity and mind going!

spots and stripes

blazer: topshop
top: h&m
dress: topshop
tights: primark
headband: babooshka boutique
glasses: primark
hype on lookbook/chictopia

I'm a total sucker for mixed patterns. Stripes and spots can look chic together right? This top from H&M was a XS, and its HUGE. Im probably a S-M normally, but seriously, I couldn’t believe what a tent it looked like on! H&M sizing can be totally weird sometimes! Today I went for a tea in a local fancy old fashioned tea room with my friend Jodie. We both felt totally overdressed for the occasion, But whatever. We had tea for two, a piece of lemon sponge cake and some toast. We had a great time because we are the type of friends that even though we don’t speak or see each other as often as we’d like, we never run out of things to talk about when we do. I like that about our relationship.

PS. Ill post my usual Sunday stuff in a bit, It explains a bit more about my absense this week and other stuff that's been occurring!

scandalously short

what i wore 23.03.10
dress: dorothy perkins
cardigan: asos
snood: peacocks
rings: new look, primark
bracelet: the charm works
hype on lookbook/chictopia

This dress looks far too short upon second viewing. I haven’t got a problem with short dresses, but this is a bit too short for comfort! I opted for my typical “warm and cosy” kind of look which I seem to be obsessed with at the moment. I cant imagine what I’ll be wearing come summer because I just love wearing warm, snuggly layers!

My charm bracelet is something I always wear, My boyfriend buys me a different charm for different special occasions. Ive currently got a Gingerbread woman, a gingerbread man, a star, a set of keys and the letter I ( For Ivor, who is my boyfriend!) The charms are from The Charmworks.

Today Me and Kyle, Decided we were going to try and get an exhibition of our work and other people at my college. We had to go ask some person if we could actually do it, but they weren't in, Which is a good job because I thought their name was Matt Prithcard, But Kyle informed me it was Mandy Pritchard, I would have looked like a bit of a idiot if id have gone looking for a man... whoops! Anyway our basic ideas is to try and get as many people as we can to do a postcard size piece of work, This way we can get a wide array of styles and mediums. I'm kinda excited about it, Ill keep y'all posted on how it turns out!

sunday portrait week 19

Sunday, March 21, 2010

This is LLYMLRS (week 19)

001. Its been a strange two weeks. I've been skipping uni completly, being on a spending ban, going on trips and trying to come to terms with the imminent death of my best friend. I posted a while ago that my friend Joel had cancer and was in a hospice, But things have taken a turn for the worse and hes nearly at the end of his struggle with cancer. It took a hell of alot of courage (and my dad to hold my hand) to go see him on Friday, but I did. I knew I'd regret it if I hadn't have gone. If Im a bit MIA in the next week, Its because of that. Its alot to deal with right now.

002. I caved in and got a Formspring, So go on... ask me anything!

003. Recently I was asked in a email why I don't do full body shots. Mainly because I rarely wear anything that goes below my knees so I generally don't see the point. Plus I kind of feel awkward trying to pose my whole body! My shoes aren't generally interesting anyway! I hardly wear heels and I normally opt for brown brouges or a variation of black flats.

004. 203 Followers + All the others on Bloglovin ! Wow, I cant actually believe that many people are interested in what I have to say. I have to admit I'm so flattered by it all. I was thinking of having a giveaway to say thank you, But I'm not sure what to give away yet, So when I think of/find some cool things to giveaway I'll let y'all know. I'm a great present giver, I love finding intresting bits and peices! Expect it to be a good'un. I promise!

Urgh, Short but sweet. I don't have much to say really.

I got back from Amsterdam yesterday, I hardly took any pictures, but here are a collection of what I did take, Some drawings and some receipts of places we went to. Me and my Boyfriend had a great time, Id totally recommend going there for a short break. We sussed out the trams and buses pretty quickly and visited so many places. It felt like such a whirlwind though, with so much we wanted to get through in 3 days. I didn't even get to go to the KattenKabinet, which was a cat museum. We did see lots of kittys though so I was happy.

Anne Franks house really surprised me as it was so much larger than i imagined. I always thought it would be like a actual attic, and a lot less like a small flat. I really liked how they kept all the original posters from Anne's room. I didn't get to see the diary as the room was being redeveloped. That was the main problem about our trip, Loads of places were either closed or partially closed because they were being updated. The Rijksmuseum was partly closed and the Stedelijk was closed completely.

Other than places of interest all we did was drink coffee and sit by the rivers. It was really relaxing. The atmosphere in Amsterdam is so different from other cities Ive been too. Everything just seems to work, Even if it does seem a really crazy place initially. We learnt quickly not to walk in the bike lane! Me and Ivor became obsessed with the Fries they do over there. So nummy and the mayo is to die for. I think I've put on like 5 lbs when we were away from them alone! The food is amazing over there. Such an electic mix of different cooking styles.

Id defiantly go there again, Id love to go look at some more of the shops as we didn't have much time to do that. The only things I bought were a Van Gough Lunchbox, Two mac eyeshadows (Gleam and Amber lights and a quad. There were so many little boutiques id have loved to have a rummage round, But alas, time was not on our side!

loose yourself

what i wore 11.03.10

dress: new look
cardigan: vintage
scarf: peacocks
hype on lookbook/chictopia

Picked up this bargain of a scarf today while shopping with my mother. It was £5 (well £4.50 with student discount) and I’m in love with it already. I feel like i don’t have enough polka dot things in my wardrobe, well apart from 10 pairs of polka dot tights! Its a nice thick jersey-ish hoody material-ish type jumper, really warm and cosy. Excuse my weird face in the picture, I seem to never open my eyes in pictures! +10 cool points to the one who spots the label on my scarf! I didn’t realize till after I took the image!

The scarf is such a affordable alternative to the imfamous Alexander McQueen Skull scarf, They are very similar in their prints. I'd not be able to afford the Mcqueen one in a million years but you know. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say here, But In a way I don't want to condone fakes/replicas/whatever you want to call it. However for those (like me) who havent got that kind of money to spare, I hope it helps someone who's looking for a nice alternative. So head down to your local peacocks! Also while I was in there I spotted some lovely moccassin flats in the sale for £5 too, and a couple of really nice bags.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Today I started making a new mini zine, fusing my pictures of my trip to New Zealand, Bits and peices of found patterns from my sketchbook and new bits of typography. It seems to have grown a bit and I'm thinking of going on with it a bit more. Its working title is "Follow Me" which is subject to change as I'm still not sure about it. Its mainly inspired by Where the Wild Things Are. Alot of the places I visited on my trip last year had the same vibe and feel of the movie. I wanted to capture that and mix it with the playfulness of the type and imagery used by Geoff Mcfetridge in the film.

This has really sparked my interest in making things up again, So expect to see more art and whatnot over the next few weeks.

what i wore 9.03.10

dress: new look
cardigan: vintage
rings: primark
hype on lookbook/chictopia

Couldn't decide what to wear today, I think I went though over 4 outfits before sort-of deciding on this. I love the shape of this dress and the way it looks on, Its quite short, Maybe a little too short for comfort, But I do love it. I found this cardigan in the depths of my wardrobe, and fell in love, Its a gorgeous Maroon color and i can totally see myself wearing this a lot more now its been rediscovered! I love finding things like that!

The other day I received this little package of goodies from Sophie @ Mighty Curious. I'm actually wearing one of the badges on my cardigan but my hair is covering it. You cant get these badges anymore, but she has some other super cool stuff up for sale! You can buy her stuff at either Etsy or Folksy.

Mighty Curious

PS. Has anyone seen the new gossip girl episode! It was so good! Im so pleased its back on! I needed my Chuck Bass fix for sure!
