sussing out eye cream

eye cream reccomendations

Looking after your eyes is a must. At the grand age of 24 I’ve started to notice how my eyes are showing signs of ageing. Fine lines, dark circles and discolouration. Not cute. Eye cream isn’t just something that your nan uses. We should all look after our under eye areas, it’s an essential part of a skincare routine. Eyes are delicate and sensitive - rubbing off our mascara and tugging at them to apply our eyeliner - not the best. Giving your eyes a bit of extra attention and love will make a hinge difference. It will help keep your eyes looking brighter, more awake, reduce shadows, and minimise any early morning puffiness. Picking a eye cream might be a bit daunting (boring) but here are my favourites to help you pick your own!

Origins No Puffery is a lovely cooling rollerball under eye treatment. It’s soothing, cooling and really perks up the under eye area. It’s my quick fix under eye treatment. It quells under eye puffing in no time! Benefit’s It’s Potent is my personal favourite eye cream. It’s thick and creamy but sinks straight into the skin. Using my ring finger I’ll take a light layer on or when my eyes are in need of a deep hydration I apply a thick layer like a under eye mask. I also really like the Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream as it’s affordable, cooling and brightening on the under eye area. It’s also 99% natural which is great for those conscious of the environment!

the best brow tip ever

the best brow tip ever

I'm often asked about my eyebrows. I've always had big bushy brows but thanks to Cara big brows are back in and finally I feel comfortable with the slugs that line my eyes. Today I thought I'd share my number 1 brow tip!

My number 1 tip with brows is to just go with the shape. One thing I learnt really on in my brow journey that trying to change my natural brow shape too much can lead to much disappointment.

If you don't have naturally arched eyebrows no matter what you try and do they arent going to look natural if you're getting them shaped up to your forehead. Also be really really careful when it comes to the middle of your brows. I spent about a year reshaping the front of my brows after a terrible over zealous threading session. It makes a huge difference to your brow shape and how they balance out your features.

Check how your eyebrows naturally fall rather than trying to get them waxed/plucked/threaded into a shape. They might look good when you first get them done but overtime they'll loose shape quicker and look messier.

If you're not confident with brow shaping recommend going to a professional and asking them about what shape they think your brows should be. If in doubt always go ask for help. It'll save you a lot of tears and upset. No body wants to be left with tadpole sperm brows? Amirite?

Yeap. Another pair of the Little Mix Nails. I have to admit I really like them! I've worn so many different pairs over the last year - I always go back to them whenever Im in the mood of a instant highly decorated unique manicure. These ones are the Jade 2 nails, a mix of nude, black and gold glitter. With a variety of finishes like half moons, stripes, little heart embellishments and a full on gold glitter nail. Out of the 4 finishes of the Little Mix Elegant Touch nails (fruits, day of the dead, gothic glam and this one) I feel like this one is the weakest and I've been against purchasing it for ages as I just didnt like it so that much. However as soon as I started putting them on I knew they were a winner. Pretty, subtle (well as subtle as glitter can be) and elegant.

URBAN DECAY NAKED FLUSHED PALETTE*

Currently trending in the beauty world are face palettes. While not revolutionary, I haven’t really seen that many on the market before. I dont know why because it's pretty handy having a few cheek products lined up together in a easy to move around case. Here are two that have been floating my boat right now!

too faced bonjour soleil summer bronzer*:  This is seriously beautiful trio of bronzers housed in a sleek tin case. Containing three of Too Faced best selling bronzers and a super cute flatbuki, plus a handy how to guide. Each bronzer is pigmented, smooth and easy to apply - my personal favourite is the luminize, highlight and bronze in one Snow Bunny.

Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette*: Adding to the ever popular Naked line Urban Decay released a trio of face palette containing a blush, bronzer and a highlighter. Similar in size to the Urban Decay Naked Basic’s palette, these are perfect for being on to go. Silky smooth pressed powders which can be blended together or used individually to shape and contour.

Im not one for Nude lips... I don't know why but I'm always so iffy about them. I think they can either look a bit pornstar-y pale on me or just make my lips blend into my skin tone. Recently I rediscovered the Revlon Matte Balm in Complex. A pretty peachy brown nude which really compliments my tanned skin.

Long time readers will know that I'm a bit of a chubby lip pencil hater, but I do actually really like the Revlon Matte Balms. They are easy to apply, long lasting and have a lovely tingly refreshing feel to them. Would totally recommend this shade if you're looking for something a little warmer in the nude family that isnt going to make you look like a corpse!

PS. I swatched the whole Revlon Matte Balm range here if you want to check out the whole range!

Maybelline Acid Wash Lilac Rebel

MAYBELLINE COLOUR SHOW ACID WAS IN LILAC DREAM review swatch photo

Uh. Where to start with this polish. It's called Lilac Rebel. Um... yeah that's definitely blue. Okay let's forget about the name and just apply the polish.

One Coat - Pretty thin still.

Two Coats - Oh, okay it'll need another.

Third Coat- ABJSGDKJSFJKSHFSNF.

Remove Polish.

I then tried it under a blue base and it looked a lot better. But the larger glitter stuck to the sides of the bottle and I couldn't scoop it out or lay them smooth. The smaller pieces came out fine but the effect I was looking for just wasn't happening.I do like the idea of having a matte glitter in a creme polish, I just felt this was too thin and just didnt work. This also comes in a topcoat only version which I might purchase as well as two other blended shades.

Makeup Tools every beauty junkie needs

Tweezers - Top of my list of beauty tools you should own are a good pair of tweezers. Perfect for grabbing stray hairs, shaping brows, applying false eyelashes and more. Invest in a good pair like Tweezerman ones - They stay sharp for ages are so worth the money.

Eyelash Curlers - If you don’t have lash curlers then go out and buy some. Seriously.  Right now. Stop reading this and go but some. Lash curlers are life changing. You can pick them up for a couple of pounds or spend a little more on a good long lasting pair like the Shu Uemeua Eyelash Curlers. If you curl your lashes before applying mascara and you’ll see a huge difference in the way your eyes look. It helps make your lashes look longer, your eyes look bigger and fake longer lashes. An absolutely must in your beauty stash.

Magnifying Mirror - As scary as it seems to see your face up close, a magnification mirror can make a huge difference to how you apply makeup and see your skin. You can see stray hairs, blend your shadow out better and make applying eyeliner much easier.

Pencil Sharpener - Keeping your eyeliners sharp and pointy is not only hygienic but makes application much easier. You’ll get cleaner more even lines and helps with application. I recommend getting a two holed one so you an sharpen the regular sized pencils and for eyeshadow or lip crayons. I have the Barry M one which has served me so well over the years. You dont need to spend a huge amount on one of these but they are a must.

my summer base

Time to talk summertime face base. Y'know that time of the year when youre between two shades of foundation and no matter what you do nothing turns out right.

Recently I've been reaching for a combo of the Estee Lauder Double Wear All Day Glow BB Cream and mixing it with the Urban Decay Naked Skin Bronzing Beauty Balm. Thats a bit of a tongue twister isnt it!

The BB Cream is good consistency and covers just enough. My skin is pretty good at the moment so all I need is something to even it out. Mixed with equal parts of the Urban Decay Balm it creates a glowy slightly bronzy base which compliments my skintone really well. Blended into the skin with my HG of foundation brushes the Real Techniques Retractable Bronzing Brush, it gives a lovely airbrushed finish.

Dab a bit of powder on the tzone and conceal any rouge spots and I have my dream summer base. Glowy, flawless and light!

Eylure Starter Kit review swatch photo

Eylure Starter Kit review swatch photo

Applying eyelashes isn’t all that easy is it? Those girls on Youtube make it look so easy? Admittedly I’ve become pretty good at applying them but I know for the majority of gals out there applying lashes is a major stress.

In comes the Eylure Starter Kit - perfect for beginners. The Eylure 101's (see my original review here!) are one of my favourite eyelashes as they are short, full but really open up the eye with some subtle volume. The kit also contains a practice lash which is perfect if you need some time to get to grips with application. With a little help from the Lash Applicator, it makes application super easy. Plus it isn't as daunting as waving a pair of tweezers near your eyeballs.

My top tip with eyelashes is to wait for the glue to dry a little before going in and applying it. When it’s tackier it sticks better and you’ll find it a whole lot easier to place. What I like to do is place the lash in the middle and then user the applicator to place the inner and outer corner.

Practice makes perfect when it comes to applying eyelashes so keep at it and practice as much as you can!

marc jacobs daisy dreams review swatch photo

Im a little bit of a Marc Jacobs fragrance addict. It started with Honey and then I feel like I've amassed a whole collection within a few short years. When this little blue and white bottle of delight came to my door I was very happy to give it a spritz. Marc Jacobs Daisy Dreams has a fruity floral feel to it, easy breezy summertime feel. I can get notes of blackberry, pear and grapefruit, lychee and jasmine. It feels fresh and feminine with a slight sexy edge. I highly recommend giving this scent a bit of a spritz if you're looking for a nice summery perfume that wont feel too out of place come the cooler months.

jouer matte moisture tint, estee lauder all day glow BB concealer*, Collection lasting perfection concealer, the body shop honey bronzer in 03*, laura mericer mineral powder in real sand, MAkeup forever sepia palette, illamasqua brow cake*, Rimmel london wonderful mascara*, rimmel kate moss lipstick in 101

This months makeup has been all about glowy skin, shaped cheeks and no eyeliner. I don't know why but I always tend to ditch the liner in the summer months in favour of a more natural look. While I don think I'll be breaking up with eyeliner for good it's something I am slowly learning to live without.

Key products I'd recommend from this look is the Makeup Forever Sepia palette, a super snazzy compact with a ton of really lovely warm wearable brows, a blue, pink and a super carbon black. It's such a wearable palette which I cant rave enough about. Super slim line too.

I also quite like the Rimmel Wonderful Mascara, it's infused with Argan Oil which has been making my lashes feel very soft and fluttery. Also a bit honourable mention to the Illamaqua Velvet Blush in Flirtatious. It's really nice at just adding a touch of colour to the face and bringing out the apples of my cheeks.
