mini break : amsterdam
A few weeks ago I went to Amsterdam with my friends Dal, Evan, Dodie, Karim & Ali. It was a sort of post holiday holiday after being in Asia for Two weeks. I flew back into Amsterdam in the earlier hours and within a few hours of getting there everything went wrong. I lost my passport somewhere between landing and getting out of the airport. Then Dal called me telling me she left her bag in departures so had to get a later flight as she missed hers. To top it off I had no money at all, well I had one USD but that is literally nothing. So there I was in Amsterdam with no money and no passport. I almost cried. But I held them back and got my serious Melrose head on. I asked about my passport because it cant really have gone walkies between customs and me getting out the airport. I asked at the office and the woman was SO unhelpful, I went to the police and nearly cancelled it before an announcement over the tannoy told me they found it. Phoned my mum and she Western Unioned me some money so I was okay.
THEN to top things off I was supposed to be in Amsterdam to go to Mysterland Festival to report for Bank. I got there and they wouldn't let me get my tickets as my name wasnt on the booking (because the PR booked in) so I couldnt collect them. They'd let me check in to the hotel but no actually get the tickets. Defeated, over tired and stressed I just gave up. After I managed to check in and get to my room I had a bath and relaxed before heading into the city to meet Evan and co.
They were staying in this amazing AirBnb apartment which made me insanely jealous! It was so nice! That afternoon we went for a wander along the canals and then went to a rooftop bar where you could see the whole skyline over Amsterdam. It was crazy beautiful!
The second day we had a little gather in Vondlepark which was lovely! So awesome meeting people who watch your videos in different countries! Me and Dal went to the Sex Museum, which was honestly one of the funniest things I've ever experienced. We genuinely laughed our way through the whole place. Explicit but honest and unique view of sex and love - I love European's attitude to sexuality.
We went to a restaurant called Cau for lunch as it looked nice, and low and behold it was pretty good. I did think it was quite expensive for Amsterdam but it was a really lovely meal after eating Asian food constantly for two weeks! I had pea and mint risotto and the best Mac and Cheese I'd had in a long time. I'd say it was my second favourite I've had. Spuntino still has the title! After a few beers by the River, frites, nutella and ice cream waffles and more wandering we returned to our Hotel to sleep. I actually fell asleep at 9pm and Dal ended up going out to meet her friend. I was just too tired to function!
