Right, You guys probably (or not) know how much of a ASOIAF buff I am. I probably know more about the fake history of Westeros than I do about the real life history - It’s my fandom. A few weeks ago a email hit my inbox with an invite to the premiere of the season 4 of Game of Thrones. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already planning to pull all the contacts I’ve gained over the last 5 years of blogging to try and worm my way into the event. But to actually be invited was just next level. Trying to stop fangirling was super hard.
So, I bought along my housemate and fellow Game of Thrones nerd, Ben for a good ol’ fashioned fan freakout. We watched episode one of season 4 a few weeks early, and it was actually really good! I always think opening episodes are a bit slow but it was perfectly paced and really set a whole bunch of things up while explaining the next series. This series is set to be a lot bigger in terms of format as a lot more things happen and the whole “episode 9” (Ned’s death/Blackwater/Red Wedding) thing happens all over the series not just in that episode. I'm not allowed to do spoilers unfortunately, but if you’ve read the books then you’d know anyway! But a few thoughts - Oberyn asserted himself as a certified badass, Joffrey was his usual insufferable self and some confusion re: Daario as he's been recast. Also a nod to my favourite knight, Ser Duncan the Tall.
After me and my housemate Ben only went and sat on the Iron Throne, which officially is the coolest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life. I could barely contain my fangirl joy as you can see in the drinks photo! Funny story about the drink. I asked the woman what it was and she replied Blood. I was horrified for a bit before she was like OHGOSH I MEANT BLOOD ORANGE. I knew it was GoT themed party but no bodies into cannibalism south of the wall. Anyway- Sitting on the throne was literally SO exciting! I think the throne quite suits me and I've decided I need to commission myself a brand new one.
To coincide with the Sunday binges (more here) and that will be streaming over on NOW TV. The guys at have also offered up a prize for you guys... Im really INSANELY jealous about this. But you could win your very own Iron Throne - Well sort of! It’s not Iron but it sure looks like the original. You'll also get a bunch of other Game of Thrones goodies. All you have to do is answer the question in the Rafflecopter form and it’ll pick a winner on the 5th of April, so hopefully you'll get your throne in time for the first episode on the 7th April!
