goals n' stuff

uk fashion blogger

Instead of my usual Sunday spiel I thought I’d finally get around to sharing my new years goals. I know this has been done to death the last week in the blogosphere but y’know. Sometimes writing stuff down might make you actually do it. I always have the best intentions for changing my life but who knows! I'm determind to at least give it a go...

001. Say Yes. Literally. To everything that I can do, well obviously there is restrictions. I’m going to say yes. I worry too much, which results in me not doing things because I worry what may or may not happen somewhere down the line. I want to say yes to things out of my comfort zone and trying a bit harder to explore more, try new things and gain new experiences.

002. Get better at video editing. This isn't anything too dramatic, but I really want to get better at editing videos and putting together cool stuff for my Youtube Channel. I’m getting a friend to help me out take some videos in the next few weeks so I can make some interesting and well put together Lookbook videos. I’ve been learning how to use Final Cut Pro the last few months and I think I’m alright at it now, I just want to get a bit better and work towards getting more technical editing skills. I also want to get some lighting and a new mic for my camera.

003. Get CBT for my pencil phobia. While it’s been an issue for me for years. It’s got worse of the last year to the point where I had to throw away all my pencil eyeliners and eyebrow pencils (which I was okay with before) because they were upsetting me too much. Once I had to get Zoe to come over to open a packet of stationary for me so I could use the ruler in it and she could throw the pencil away. I struggle to use non coated chopsticks as well which is a new thing. I think earlier in the year when I went to the Revlon Matte Crayon launch, and I had to email ahead asking about pencils (it was a crafting event) was a turning point for me and made me realise. I probably need to get over this irrational fear.

004. Meet new people! I really want, and NEED to meet new people. While I have a bunch of friends in London all of whom I love dearly, I think it’s time to expand my friendship circle and just put myself out there a bit more. Its really hard to meet people in London, a lot harder than you’d think considering its FULL of people. In started off the new year by going to a party not knowing anyone. Which was way out of my comfort zone but I ended hop having a fab time and meeting a ton of new friends. But I’m going to make a point to try and be more friendly and open with people.

  3. I totally know what you mean about living in London (a huge place full of people) but not actually meeting anyone...I lived there last year and felt so lonely i moved back home! I've been blogging for almost a year now and your blog was actually the first i ever come across while at college 3 years ago :) www.fifiloves.com xo

  4. I agree with you on the last point - I also need to work on that! Especially as bloggers we have tons of opportunities to socialize with other like-minded people and meet celebrities at some of the blog events, but I feel like I'm not actually using this chance. It's so much easier to go to a party with your friend and stay glued together the whole night, haha! I can also soooorta relate to the pencil phobia, but not exactly the same way. What bothers me about pencils and literally gives me goosebumps is hearing the screeching sound of a pencil being used, you know when they're not sharpened that well? Ugh, just thinking about it.. :D

  6. Saying yes more can literally change your life, it changed mine! you should read 'Yes Man' by Danny Wallace if you haven't already, it will really encourage you to keep saying yes!

  7. Lovely post, Lily. You New Year's Eve post was so brave and I admire you so much. I want to watch Yes Man. And also say yes more as well. Last year I spent too much time apologising and shying away but not in 2014, I've decided! And I agree. I want to make a new friend this year. Meet some new people. Even if I don't like them! And good luck with you phobia, it must be hard for you xxx

  9. I know exactly what you mean - despite London's huge population, it's really hard to meet new people. I joined a Korfball [random dutch sport]when I moved over here last summer. There have been many fun social events since then! =)

  15. Great goals! and it's brilliant that you're being proactive about the things that you see as problems. I want to start saying 'yes' to things (and actually seeing them through) more, too. Maybe I'll set that as a goal! That and amen to meeting new people! It's so easy to get comfortable and not feel the need to expand your circle, isn't it? x

  18. Stepping out of my comfort zone is a HUGE resolution/goal for 2014 for me as well! I came up with a kind of cheesy little saying: Live positively, positively live. It's a play on words and it means two things: to live optimistically, and to live life to the fullest. I'm hoping that it will just be a reminder to me throughout this year of my goals.

  19. They sound like good goals! Potentially life changing but still realistic!! Awesome.
I'm going through and blogging a bit about CBT at the moment, although it is for manic depression and not phobia, I am finding it so useful! Would definitely recommend it!!

  26. 1 and 4 are something I'm trying to focus on more this year too as they're so interlinked. I moved down to London in July and the second half of the year flew by from getting settled, starting a new job, catching up with old friends etc so now I want to use this year to focus on doing new things and meeting new people. Most of my current friends live in north london or surrey so I'm on a mission to never turn anything down around clapham south in the hope I'll soon have more friends within a few minutes walk!
Happy new year, best of luck with everything! xx

  30. I completely understand the phobia thing, while I'm not scared by pencils balloons are a big deal for me which makes some social events quite a challenge (as well as the 'usual' being scared of spiders haha). I've had CBT for my spider phobia before and it did help so I wish you the best of luck! :)

  34. I love reading these kinds of posts, hearing about other people's goals really inspires me to think about my own and the things I want to change about myself. I'm definitely in the same boat with you on the first one - I'm such a scaredy-cat and so many times I've regretted not doing something! The last one is one of my goals too, I've just start uni and I'm finding it quite hard to get settled and find people that I really connect with, so my aim is to try and meet lots of new people to see if I can improve matters!
Good luck with all your goals!

  45. I never would have thought you to be afraid of pencils. But also goes to show that you never really can tell with these things because they happen to everyone. Personally I have aquaphobia and more specifically deep water. In the past it has stopped me from having baths and showers and since I live in an area that has minor flooding on a regular basis it has stopped me being able to leave the house. I wish you all the best for overcoming your fears and for reaching your goals!

  46. Great post and goals..
    All very achievable. :)
I think saying 'yes' is something a lot of people have mentioned this year and I def should tag along with it.. I'm a very negative person, so always think of the cons of something and talk myself out of it, before really considering the pros.
Your last point of meeting new people is a great one.. it's great to have varied friendships, different friends have different good points, plus it broadens your horizens and as my mum used to say, it's not what you know, it's who you know... :)

Absolutely lovely goals for the year, as many others have said, the say yes to more is definitely one I'd like to achieve too, I feel I miss out on so much just because sometimes I cannot bring myself to do something even when I know in the long run I really would look back on and be happy about! I also like the idea of stepping out of my comfort zone and meeting new people, it's so much fun and would definitely help grow in confidence! 62. I've been incredibly lonely since moving to London. Although I have lovely flat mates and friends from university, I still feel lonely. I think maybe because I don't have close friends here, like the ones I can really talk to. They're all miles away or slowly drifting apart. It sucks, I want to meet more people but like you said it is extremely hard in this city!
