wednesday adams

dress: asos
rosary: via ebay
cross ring: asos
mustache ring: tatty devine
nails: nubar rosso (you can buy it here)

Sometimes you see a dress and you just need it in your life, This Asos Peter Pan dress was perfect, I wanted it so badly buy it was sold out in my size and in the colour way I wanted. I emailled Asos repeatedly asking if it was in stock and even though they claimed it was, it was never on the website. Then Daisy Kate from Fashion Stereotype kindly tweeted me and prodded me in the direction of the Petite version. I bought it in a 10, but could have probably done with a 8 as its a bit baggy on my shoulders. Unfortunately the dress in the Black/White combo has now sold out but you can still get the camel/black one, which is just as cute!

Now when it comes to Asos and petite it really frustrates me. I find all their dresses abnormally long (regular and petite ranges!). I've actually ranted about this before, Im 5ft5, While not classed as petite I pretty much am. Now maybe its coz I like dresses to hit me at a certain length (mid thigh, needs to be above my knees at least!) but they just come really long. I'm normally lazy and never take things up myself, but because of my pure love for this dress I took it up about two inches. I just think if something classed as petite, it should be short, god knows how long the normal version one, would have probably been a maxi dress on me!

I had to suitably style the dress to fit my Wednesday Adams obsession, Most importantly the fishtail braid to add that little extra nod and the knotted rosary. The rosary has to be one of my all time favourite ebay purchases EVER. Its so versitile and easy to wear, and the red just gives it a little something extra. I even wore my Asos cross ring for another little nod to some gothic glamour! I took off my fake nails todat and opted for the au natural look. My natural nails are horrid but to hide this I used my new favourite polish Nubar Rosso, Its a lovely sparkly red with loads of glitter in, I like it 100 times more than the Barry M glitter polish! Its not flaking off at all!

I'm going to see Harry Potter tonight with KB and Greg! Im not even that much of a HP fan, but the Twitterverse has gone mad for it and I need to see what everyone going on about. I've not read the last book, I have read the others though so it might be a nice surprise! I also won a case of Vitamin Water today in Twitter and £5 on a scratchcard. Lucky day muchhh!

Also, Im not sure if I should embed my outfit videos on the blog or not, what are your thoughts?

  4. I'm really annoyed because I got this dress in the regular length, before they did the petite version, and I really could've done with it. Never mind x

  6. i LOVE this look! probs my favourite on you actually. clearly the wednesday adams look really suits you haha.
i have the same problem with asos, they clearly think that everyone is 6ft. but then i bought a petite pair of jeans from there once (i'm 5ft5 too) and they were too short. it must be the dresses maybe :/

Thanks so much for linking me too, most people wouldn't bother, that's lovely of you lily. 11. I love the dress- love the styling too. Wednesday is a favourite of mine.

Intrigued me to see you find ASOS dresses really long at 5ft5in. I'm also 5ft5in, but I always seem to find dresses from ASOS really short, and sometimes I end up with a size bigger than I need to give me a little bit of extra length for decency.

  12. Cute outfit! And I love your makeup :)
I agree with the dresses being long .. i'm shorter than you are so they're longer on me!

  13. I think it's a bit more nun-like than wednesday adams especially with the crucifix jewellery you've added. I was gonna buy this dress myself but that's all i could think of when i saw it...NUN! haha :) Love the way you've done your hair though, really suits you.

  21. Lovely dress, I recently bought a similar style from asos and I love it. Well done on the vitamin water, I got a bit obsessed during fashion week. I think embedding videos is a good idea, as not everyone will click on the link and subscribe via Youtube.

  22. I have the camel/black version. Or at least, I ordered it earlier this week. I think I might get a smaller size because I'm having the same problem with the shoulders being too big. I love the actual dress though!

I really like the way you've styled it, especially the hair! Think I might spend my weekend learning to braid well!

  24. Your hair looks so cute in a fishtail plait! I wish my hair was long enough to plait... it's getting there though!
The red nails look great with the simple black and white look, not something I would've considered doing myself but it actually looks really great!

  25. Lily I think you look so adorable!!! I love your hair like that.

I got that dress ages but I've not tried it on yet! =/

  26. This outfit is lovely! It's nice to see people occasionally channeling their inner Wednesday Adams/goth.

You should definitely embed your youtube videos on here, i reckon it'd just mix it up a little instead of always having photos. i'm not saying that just having photos is boring but it's always a nice wee change once in a while y'know?

ps; did you backcomb your hair before you fishtail braided it so that you had some volume? Whenever i fishtail braid my hair, it either looses a lot of volume or just fails completely when i try to add volume by backcombing a little :/

  27. Think this might actually be my favourite outfit of yours, you look AMAZING! :D

Also, I have the same trouble with sizing, I'm 5'2" and even petite ranges don't fit me as they're just so long! :( xo

  28. Such a cute dress (: I'm 5"1 and petite is still too big for me, so I completely understand where you're coming from. Love the fishtail plait as well. xx

I like the video embedded. I usually have a ton of tabs open in Firefox so it just means I don't have to open another tab. I don't think it's detrimental to the layout of your posts.

  38. Peter Pan collars are my absolute favourite thing EVER! Nothing better than feeling like a little girl but also feeling dressed up at the same time! I got this dress months ago but can't remember how long it is (it's still in the wash - doh!) so will have to do my mountain of handwashing and remind myself! I don't remember it being that long which is weird since I'm smaller than you (only by an inch though) and I have the shortest legs ever! Love the fishtail plait too, have tried it a few times but my hair is to thick it looks a bit funny. Looks especially nice with the ombre! Can't wait till my hair is healthy enough to take a little more bleach!

PS. Maybe it would be best to actually just post a link to the video or a thumbnail, as people will just watch it here and not bother to leave comments! Totally depends if you actually are bothered about comments though! x

  41. Loving today's look, it's dreamy! I bought the Topshop peter pan dress today with the leopard print collar. I love it!
Hope you're enjoying HP, I saw it yesterday. I'm not really into it either but it was really good and the easiest one to follow out of the other ones, I think. I did have to whispering the odd question to Alex though (HP's no.1 fan) but I think that's because I'm a bit of a thicko.

  47. Love this dress, its absolutely adorable and I definitely know what you mean about dresses being too long. I love some of the dresses from the INC brand at Macys but constantly have to shop in the petites section to be able to wear it the way I want (dresses should just be above the knee or maxi).

Also love the video with the pics...works really well there.

Love the Wednesday A vibe (what an icon she was!) but not a fan of the rosary...I feel that way about any cross type jewellery though - give me the willies unless it's as a reflection of someone's religion x

  67. I bought this dress too! Can't comment about the length issue - I'm 5ft 8 so never have a prob but I can imagine that's really annoying!

I personally find internet shopping annoying because I've got quite big hips for my size, and im basically a ten round my hips but an 8 at the waist, so it's hard to find high-waisted skirts that I like (and I pretty much ONLY wear high waisted skirts!)

Guess we all have our personal grumbles!
